What is an Licensed Vocational Nurse?

A Licensed Vocational (LVN) is an important member of a health care team and can be found in hospitals, long term care settings, home health, physician offices, clinics, ambulatory surgical centers and emergency medical centers providing basic bedside care for patients under the supervision of doctors and registered nurses.

An LVN performs basic patient assessment, administer prescribed medicines, give injections, charting, do vital signs, dress wounds, give enemas, report changes in patient’s conditions, help develop care plans, evaluate patient needs, supervise Certified Nursing Assistants and do other nursing procedures and functions that are within the Vocational Nursing Scope of Practice

What are the requirements for the Vocational Nursing Program?

  • Must pass the Entrance Test (Wonderlic) administered by the school with at least a score of 17 out of 50 questions within 12 minutes to assess the aptitude of prospective applicants.
  • Proof of high school completion: Copy of High School Diploma, transcript of records, or GED certificate, copy homeschooling completion certificate, copy of transcript of records other attained educational degree such as Master’s Degree.
  • Must be 17 years old or older. Applicants who are 17 y/o at the time of admission process must be accompanied by parents or legal guardian/s to sign enrollment agreement.
  • Valid California Identification card (ID).
  • A U.S. citizen, permanent U.S. resident with valid Social Security Number.
  • Clear criminal background screening, Must not have been convicted in any court of law of any major crime.
  • Must have Physical Exam and Negative Skin Test or Negative Chest X-ray.
  • Certified in B.L.S. (Basic Life Support) by the American Heart Association.
